Youth Education Programme

Introducing the MCA’s Youth Education Programme (YEP)

“Say Yep to the Facts. Say Yep to Your Future.”

At the Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA), we are committed to fostering a society where accurate information guides responsible choices. Our Youth Education Programme is a cornerstone of this commitment, designed to equip young people, parents, and educators with the knowledge they need to navigate the evolving landscape of medicinal cannabis and substance use.

About the Programme

Launched in direct response to growing concerns about children’s exposure to cannabis and widespread misunderstanding of cannabis laws, this initiative takes a proactive, educational approach. The Programme promotes healthy decision-making, awareness of the developing brain, and an understanding of peer influence and responsible behaviour, while helping young people distinguish between medicinal cannabis and recreational cannabis use. We believe that informed communities are empowered communities, and that lasting change begins with our youth.

Through interactive school visits, discussions, educational activities, and other youth-focused initiatives, the programme encourages youths to know the facts and protect their future. It provides a safe space for young people to ask questions, challenge common misconceptions, and develop a clearer understanding of the potential health, social and legal implications associated with cannabis use at a young age.

Delivered in collaboration with educational institutions and relevant youth and community stakeholders, the programme ensures that information is accessible, age-appropriate, and responsive to the needs of young people in Antigua and Barbuda.

Our Message to the Community

We encourage all adults to be mindful that substance misuse sends the wrong message to our youth and undermines the proven medicinal value of cannabis. The MCA calls on everyone, especially those working directly with children, to take an active role in protecting young people from harmful exposure.
